Every university has it's own ways to welcome their freshman every year. In IR (International Relations) UPH we have two different events to welcome our freshman. First there is “Welcoming Gathering”, it is an event that will inform the freshman on what are the events that IR UPH will held, how to join the committee and other formal announcement. The next event that held roughly held 1-2 month after Welcoming Gathering is “IR WEEKEND 2017”. Franklin D. Roosevelt once said “The point in history at which we stand is full of promise and danger. The world will either move forward toward unity and widely shared prosperity - or it will move apart.” This is exactly the purpose of IR WEEKEND 2017, to make IR UPH as a unity and  to eradicate any boundaries between batches. This year event has been held at UPH and Camp David Puncak, on 27-29 October 2017. The first day of event was held on uph and opened by our faculty Dean Mr. Aleksius Djemandu. After the opening remarks by our Dean, next to speak is the steering committee and one of the sophomore Reza Abisha, “I hope that the goal that has been set by the committee will be delivered to you guys, the purpose of this event is to make all batches, from the first batch of IR which is batch 2005 to our newest family member batch 2017 know each other, work with each other and hopefully can help each other someday. So enjoy your next three days with us and lastly, HAVE FUN..!!”. He emphasized.

After a series of welcoming speech the event finally in order.  The first day of IR WEEKEND doesn’t seem go as smooth as the committee has planed, “ It was raining, and it was raining really hard. We have to change the location for the next event” said reza when asked on how the event goes. But he said that all the problems are taken with light headed and all the location has been changed so that rain it self does not affect the flow of the event. Although in the end the rain stops exactly before the outdoor session was started.
The next 2 days the event was held on “Camp David Resort, Puncak”. The participants and the committee start their trip early in the morning morning, they went to puncak by bus and start moving by 6.30am. “It’s the best possible solution to avoid the crazy puncak traffic” said Reza. The next 2 days of event went on very smooth, it goes as the committee has planned.  For two days in Puncak the participant and the committee was accompanied by our head of academic division Mr. Edwin Tambunan.

“I am very happy, I am very satisfied, looking back for almost 11 months of hard work that this committee dedicated for these past three days was ineffable. I believe that what they accomplished are the reflection of what they have been preparing for almost the past 11 months.” Reza also thinks that the goal that has been set from the very beginning of this event has been delivered fully, from not knowing to how they help each other without recognizing the different batch they have, to work together with the freshmen without realizing that they almost finish their university life, “It is indeed beautiful to look at” reza say with such a calm voice. But, in the end of his closing remarks he said, “Not so much i can give you all but the word thank you, I hope that this relationship last forever, and now we can tell to the people who has not join this event and tell them what they’ve missed for not joining IR WEEKEND 2017”. Said Reza proudly. - Agusta Adbel.
