Not everyone has the chance to travel and see the world. With the unaffordable costs and the limited vacation days that everyone must deal, it seems like experiencing the scenary from different countries is just a dream. The innovational event created by the International Community for Student or ICS of Universitas Pelita Harapan might give you the remedy. ICS Cultural Week introduces the people to live through a quick experience on what is like to witness the atmosphere of foreign countries.

During its fourth year of being held, ICS Cultural Week 2017 offers variety of traditional and modern performances from across the globe performed by the native citizens. With the theme of time-travelling experience, the event presents a mixture of dancing, music and festivity to everyone who attended the event together as they enjoy the opening ceremony that marks the start of the annual one-week-event. It can be said that the quality event was on par with the mainstream expensive cultural and music festivals with the support of the decoration and the landmarks that was put across the area of the event.

“The reason I wanted ‘time-traveling’ to be this year’s theme of ICS Cultural Week is because I wanted to showcase to the people, especially around UPH that they and the people around the globe, cannot forget their root or their past, they have to remember it because it is the process of how they got here. But, I also wanted to show this in a fun and entertaining way so that people can relate to it easily.” said Asri Amanta, the head of the committee of ICS Cultural Week this year.

Despite being hosted in the campus ground; ICS Cultural Week 2017 proves that it can offers a variety of interactive programs that could entertain the goers. Games activities, photo booth and art displays are all rewarded with vouchers and gifts even though you just come by and visit the booth. The treasure hunting game and the dart board game were mostly what drew the attention of the crowd, including myself. What a better way to relieve yourself from the stress of studying than playing games and wins a prize? And if the activities provided was not in your liking, you can come and get free foods and drinks!

“The booth is very well decorated, I really enjoyed the games and the food that was provided. At first, I was hesitant to visit the booth but then I saw a lot of people playing and received prize in return. So, I decided to try it for myself.” Said Ninoy, one of UPH’s student from the Law faculty with excitement after he won a voucher from the game. Many others like him started to visit the booth and look around as their curiosity grew from seeing others swarming tent located in front of building D of Universitas Pelita Harapan.

Throughout the week, each day the event presents a variety of activities that can be enjoyed by everyone with different interest. For example, the event held varieties of workshops, from photography class by UPH’s Photography Club, pottery class to make-up class by Etude House Cosmetics, a fashion show that showcasing outfits from different countries and a singing competition open for solo, duet and group which will have the chance to perform in the closing ceremony as the winner and also win prize money. All of the workshops went very well as the enthusiasm of the attendees filled the classroom and not to mention the singing competition and the fashion show that attracted so many people to either compete or just to enjoy the performances.

Finally, the closing ceremony of the event has come. All the performances gather again to present their act for one last time. The atrium of Supermall Karawaci filled with audience and committee to enliven the closing ceremony. Music performance from the winners of the singing competition made the people who are watching sang along, the fashion show left the people in an awe and the dance performance by the International Students from ITC UPH definitely stole the show. "I was just passing by the atrium to go shopping, but then I saw the festive performance and loud music. It made me stop and just enjoy the event!" expressed Cyrill, on of the mall visitors while watching the dance performance. Overall, it was a successful and  a joyful event that was memorable for people from all ages, and hopefully next year will be even better!
