The new order of President Donald Trump on 24th September, has caused a new turmoil as Trump’s former travel bans sparked international outrage and legal challenges. The new restrictions will be targeting travellers from the previous list and also adds Venezuela, North Korea, and Chad to the new list.
Starting October 18th
the citizens of Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, Chad and North Korea will
be prohibited from entering the United States,
as Trump has mentioned in his Sunday night proclamation. All of those countries nationals also be
suspended from acquiring immigrant visas. The travel restriction will be be
applied to the countries officials whom the Trump administration claimed it
blamed for unable to spread public safety and terrorism-related information on
incoming travellers.
In the new proclamation released by
the White House, Mr. Trump implied that the travel ban is the president’s
current effort to hinder America from incoming terrorist, criminal, and another
security issues.
“As president, I must act to protect
the security and interests of the United States and its people,” He also added that “we cannot afford to
continue the failed policies of the past, which present an unacceptable danger
to our country. My highest obligation is to ensure the safety and security of
the American people, and in issuing this new travel order, I am fulfilling that
sacred obligation.”
In contrary with the previous travel
ban, officials stressed that the new travel ban regulation is more coordinated
than the former as the officials had been working hand in hand with a wide
range of agencies and with concern of foreign governments. This new order will
establish different set of travel restriction for each of the countries, though
in most cases citizens of the countries will be unable to emigrate to the
United States permanently.
Reaction regarding the
president’s announcement was swift, as some critics have charged Trump of
trespassing his legal authority and violating the U.S. Constitution’s
protections against religious bias each time he has ordered new travel
restrictions. Moreover, the inclusion of Venezuela and North Korea appeared to be
an effort to block challenges from advocacy groups and others who have called
the restrictions a ban on Muslims. However, administration officials firmly argue the measure is necessary to keep
Americans safe.
