Stephen Paddock lived in a Nevada retirement community. He was a wealthy real-estate investor. He was a high-stakes gambler in the casinos of Nevada. He was twice divorced. He was a son of a bank robber. He displayed no strong religious or political views and has no criminal record.
Mr. Paddock was once an owner and a manager of a working-class apartment complex in the Dallas suburb of Mesquite, Texas. According to Priscilla McBride, a resident, said that Mr. Paddock often roamed the apartment property, and casually talking to residents.
While Stephen Paddock appeared to have no criminal history, his father was a notorious bank robber. Benjamin Hoskins Paddock tried to run down an FBI agent with his car in Las Vegas in 1960 and end up on the agency’s most wanted list after escaping from a federal prison in Texas in 1968, when Stephen Paddock was a teen.
His background cannot justify or even suggest the motives on why would he have been on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino with at least 17 guns on Sunday night, sending a devastating rain of bullets at an outdoor country music festival below which then killed himself in the hotel room before the authorities arrived.
