Nobel Peace Prize 2017: Who will win?

The winner of 2017 Nobel peace prize will be announced on Friday in Norwegian capital, Oslo. The prize is awarded by a committee of 5 people chosen by Norway's parliament.

Last year's Nobel peace prize was given to Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos for his efforts to bring the 50-year-long civil war to an end.

As for 2017 more or less likely nominations, either rumoured or confirmed are Julian Assage, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jo Cox, The Bulgarian Orthodox church, David Bowie, Vladimir Putin, and many more. but PRIO has identified what it feels are five possible winners:
  • Mohammad Javad Zarif and Federica Mogherini (Iran nuclear deal)
  • UNHCR and High Commissioner Filippo Grandi (Europe's refugee crisis)
  • Cumhuriyet and Can Dündar (Press freedoms in Turkey)
  • The Economic Community of West African States (African democracy)
  • The White Helmets and Raed al Saleh (Syrian civil war)
But its only what they identified, it is still possible for other nominations like the German Chancellor Angela Markel who is also seen as a worthy candidate for her decision to open borders to more than 1 million refugees and migrants since 2015. (Nadya Aprillia)
