U.S. first lady Melania Trump met with Britain's Prince Harry on Saturday, 23rd September in Toronto on her first solo international trip for the opening of Invictus Games 2017.

A spokeswoman for Mrs. Trump, Stephanie Grisham, said the Meeting between Trump and Prince Harry went on for 20 minutes, from talking about their family to discussing on which country would take home the most medals for this year's games. She also invited him to the White House the next time he visits Washington.

Mrs. Trump, 47, who leaded the U.S. delegation for the games encouraged the athletes participating in the competition to take their “fighting spirit” and “bring home the gold" during her speech. She also applauded the team members for their contributions, calling them “our heroes.”

“On behalf of my husband and our entire country, I want to thank you and your families for all you have sacrificed to keep us safe,” she said at a reception at a downtown Toronto hotel for the nearly 100 U.S. athletes competing.

The Invictus Games, founded by the British Prince Harry in 2014, are an Olympic-style competition for veterans and wounded service members from invited countries all over the globe. The inspiration of the games came to the Prince after having seen a British team competing at the US Warrior Games in 2013.

After it begins during President Barack Obama tenure, Mrs. Trump’s participation this year continues the White House involvement with the games and tightens the relationship between U.S. and UK. The wive of then-Vice President Joe Biden, Jill Biden, led the U.S. delegation to London as part of a military initiative undertaken in 2014 with then-first lady Michelle Obama. Mrs. Obama also helped open last year’s competition in Florida.

It is announced that Australia will be the host country of the next Invictus Games in 2018.
