Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has urged factions within Palestinians to overcome their differences and be ready to co-exist with each other and with Israelis in his speech to the U.N General Assembly, a day after Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, addressed the U.N General Assembly on how Israel was committed to achieving peace with all Arab countries and with the Palestinians, although he did not elaborate on how this could be achieved.
Egypt has been leading mediation efforts between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s internationally recognized Palestinian Authority located in the West Bank and Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007.
Addressing the Israelis, Sisi said: “We have an excellent experience in Egypt in peace with you for longer than 40 years.”
Israel and Egypt signed a 1979 treaty that began with overtures towards peace in 1977, according to Reuters.
